Forty years ago, Teddy the Swimmer got away with murder — i.e., the Chappaquiddick Incident.
After leaving a party around 11:15 PM, and “taking a wrong turn, ” Kennedy drove off an access road and in to a tidal channel. The cowardly fuck then left his date — Mary Jo Kopechne — to drown in the cold dark water.
Rather than going for help right away, Ted took a leisurely walk back to his hotel, showered, changed, complained about a raucous party in the same hotel, and called a friend around 8 AM.
The car — with Mary Jo’s corpse in it — was fished out of the canal around 8:45. Please note: Kennedy didn’t report the accident. Some fishermen saw the car, upside down in the water, and reported it to the cops.
Was he prosecuted? Nope. He was charged with leaving the scene of an accident, and got two months in jail — which the judge promptly suspended.
“Lion of the Senate,” indeed.
I think it is against the rules for me to type what my mother called the Kennedy clan. It wasn’t pretty.

She is buried in the same cemetary as my Grandmother and Grandfather on my Dad’s side. The People of Plymouth wouldn’t piss on him if he was on fire.

Say what you will about Ted’s politics – he’s a constant source of amusement.
Exactly the quality you want in your lawmakers.

He’s another piece of shit and I don’t think much of the “good people of Taxachussetts” either. After all what kind of people continuously re-elect a drunken, murdering coward to the Senate for 40 years running?
Fuck him. I hate “the swimmer” and I hope he suffers miserably from the brain rot he now has. He is and always has been a useless piece of drunken shit.
Grrrr!
Joe

MaryJo’s baby would be roughly one year younger than I am today. Roughly.
Kennedy is just a product of his upbringing. If you are brought up with folks in the wings ready to clean up your “messes” and not deal with any unpleasantness as a result of your actions, it’s no wonder that the Chappaquidick incident happened. I’m sure it haunts him. I HOPE IT HAUNTS HIM.

I seem to recall that some guys landed on the moon about then, also.
I was about to turn 13 then, had been eagerly following the space program since I was old enough to understand spoken English, and was in the hospital, having just had my appendix yanked a few hours previously. I came out of anesthesia just in time to see N. Armstrong take his “one small step.”
40 years later, I cringe when I think how close I came to missing it.
